Tuesday Nets

The San José RACES team holds on-air nets every Tuesday night. Our nets are conducted to verify the functionality of our equipment, to provide training to our team members, and to conduct team business.

Our nets are conducted as Directed Nets, which means that all communications must be routed through the Net Control Operator (NCO). Always listen to, and follow the instructions of, the NCO.

Visitors and guests are always welcome to join us. Either monitor in the background, or check-in during the visitor portion of the net. You only need to check-in on one of the nets, but monitor both if able.

Simplex Net

     Date: Every Tuesday
  Time: 1920 hours (7:20 pm)
Frequency: 146.475 MHz (PL 100.0 Hz requested)

Our Simplex Net is held on one of our assigned simplex frequencies (hence the name 😉 ). By it’s nature, holding a net via simplex can be challenging in an area the size of the city of San Jose, however it gives us a chance to practice in the event that simplex is all we have available.

Your location relative to the NCO and other net participants will influence your ability to participate in the net. If you are able to hear the NCO well enough to follow his/her instructions, feel free to attempt to check-in (if Net Control can’t hear you, someone else will likely act as a relay your behalf). On the other hand, if you can’t hear the NCO well enough to follow instructions, or your check-in was unsuccessful, try checking in on the Repeater Net, instead.

Repeater Net

     Date: Every Tuesday
  Time: 1940 hours (7:40 pm)
Frequency: 146.985 MHz, negative offset, PL 114.8 Hz

Our Repeater Net is held on the W6UU repeater, located in the east hills of San Jose, near Eagle Rock. Use of the repeater is graciously provided to us by its owner, the Santa Clara County Amateur Radio Association (SCCARA).

In general, W6UU provides much better city-wide coverage than is available via simplex. However, there are some areas where communications can be challenging, for example, deep in Almaden Valley, or in the shadow of Communications Hill. Do the best you can!
